Carol Marie Daniels is the Project Manager for the Public Art & Civic Art Collection. She previously served as the Commission’s Cultural Facilities Manager in the Community Arts and Education Program. During her four year tenure working with the Cultural Centers, Ms Daniels served as Chair of the Visual Arts Programming Committee of the African American Art and Culture Complex (AAACC). In this capacity she led weekly community engagement sessions designed to formulate an exhibition policy and reactivate the gallery space at AAACC. In 2002 the Sargent Johnson Gallery was rededicated and provocative visual arts programming continues to this day.

Conservation highlights of her eight years with the Civic Art Collection include the repainting and refurbishing of Mark di Suvero’s Sea Change sculpture at Pier 40, South Beach Harbor; the bronze and travertine monument to Francis Scott Key in Golden Gate Park; Portals of the Past, a cast stone and marble monument in Golden Gate Park; two of Benjamin Bufano’s mosaic sculptures Peace, on Brotherhood Way and Madonna at San Francisco General Hospital; Dewey Crumpler’s The Fire Next Time, a 1984 exterior mural at the Joseph P. Lee Recreation Center; Union Square Colonnade the four R.M. Fischer stainless steel and granite light sculptures at Union Square and the Embarcadero glass block Ribbon and Historical & Interpretive Signage along the 2-1/2 mile Promenade.

Ms. Daniels co-developed and implemented a four-day workshop for mid-career art conservators with local partner ARG/Conservation Services and the national Foundation of the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works. The 2010 program included a tour of local outdoor sculptures with special lectures by de Young Museum and San Francisco Museum of Modern Art staff and sessions on conservation methodology and decision making. The highlight of the workshop was the site testing of the bronze and brick Shakespeare Monument in Golden Gate Park’s Shakespeare Garden. Ms. Daniels holds a BA in Political Science from Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia and an MBA in Arts Administration from Golden Gate University in San Francisco. Carol Marie attended the Visual Criticism Program at the California College of Art in San Francisco.
