Laura Word has been a Senior Program Officer in the Division of Preservation and Access at the National Endowment for the Humanities since September 1991, where she has been responsible for many of the division’s preservation grant programs, including Preservation Assistance Grants for Smaller Institutions, Education and Training, and Sustaining Cultural Heritage Collections.  Laura led the division’s efforts to develop a preventive conservation grant program that emphasizes sustainable preservation strategies, and she has managed this program since its inception in 2009.  Before coming to the NEH, Laura worked as an objects conservator at the Bishop Museum in Honolulu, Hawaii, where she provided preservation information and services to numerous museums and historical organizations in Hawaii and the Pacific. She has a master's degree in museum studies with a certificate in archaeological and ethnographic conservation from George Washington University.
