Michael Doutre entered the field of art conservation during his thesis for a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. After finishing his studies he began working as a research technologist in the Conservation Science Laboratory of the Art Conservation Program at Queen’s University, focusing on the chemical and physical behavior of gessoes. His research interests include instrumental chemical analysis and the development of analytical techniques.
