Mary Schafer is Conservator of Paintings and Manager of the Mellon Conservation Science Endowment at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, Missouri. She received her M.A. in Painting Conservation from the State University of New York, College at Buffalo. In addition to activities related to acquisition, exhibition, and loan, she is currently treating a portrait by Goya and writing technical notes for a forthcoming catalogue of the French paintings collection. She regularly collaborates with scientists and curators, which has lead to co-authored technical studies on Raphaelle Peale (Winterthur Portfolio), Claude Monet (exhibition catalogue essay, Saint Louis Art Museum), and Nicolas Poussin (Kermes). Mary has been a Professional Associate of AIC since 2007 and served on the PSG Nominating Committee from 2015-2017.
